LARGE-SPAN ROOFS AND CANOPIES
Large span roofs are susceptible to wind excitation. The Alan G. Davenport Wind Engineering Group has studied a number of stadia and canopies. Wind tunnel tests on pressure models give local cladding pressures for the design of panels. The pressure data also can be integrated over the structure to give particular responses when combined with influence functions. Aeroelastic models are used to evaluate structural responses including deflections and forces in at particular locations. The advantage of aeroelastic testing is that it explicitly includes the effects of motion of the roof and its response. Section model tests are used to identify any severe aeroelastic effects, particularly any tendency towards instability.
Our innovative ideas assist engineers, architects and designers of international renown to improve the reliability, performance and economy of design of their projects.
