PEDESTRIAN-LEVEL WIND ENVIRONMENT

Pedestrian Level EnvironmentThe study of the pedestrian-level wind environment around a building generally focuses on the comfort and safety of pedestrians for a range of wind conditions. Measurements of wind speeds for different wind directions are made at various locations on main pedestrian routes on a scaled model of the project site. Predictions of wind speeds for various probabilities of occurrence and for various percentages of time are then provided to the client.

The Alan G. Davenport Wind Engineering Group works with architects, engineers and planners at the design stage of the project so that decisions can be made regarding the appropriateness of planned pedestrian activities; and in strong wind conditions, regarding the safety of the pedestrians and damage to property.  Potential problem wind areas can be identified and then corrected with appropriate remedial measures.
